DoseResponse® is an easy-to-use, highly flexible and secure (HIPAA compliant) web-based application for managing warfarin therapy in a variety of locations while efficiently documenting patient encounters to support reimbursement and patient management. For example, the software can support a single clinic/office setting, or can be configured to support multiple patient care sites with centralized decision-making in one location.

DoseResponse® incorporates the national guidelines for dosing and monitoring to provide a standardized, consistent approach to therapy. The software supports the initiatives of both the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s Five Million Lives campaign and the Joint Commission on Healthcare Organizations’ patient safety goal to improve anticoagulation management through the use of centralized protocols.

In a typical configuration of DoseResponse®, the clinic site or physician office logs onto the website and enters blood test and clinical data. The information travels across a secure connection to the DoseResponse® server where it is compared to the national guidelines. Dosage and monitoring recommendations are generated from the guidelines, and travel back to the clinic/office site where they are reviewed, modified when clinically necessary, and printed in easy-to-read instructions for distribution to the patient. The communication of information from the clinic/office computer to the server and back typically occurs in less than a second.

The software substantially improves patient communication by printing patients’ dosage instructions, replacing the less reliable forms of communication that are currently used. The printed instructions include graphical schedules and educational material both of which are designed to encourage better compliance to drug therapy. In addition, the software provides ongoing quality assurance and administrative reports to facilitate efforts to track and improve patient care.
